On July 20, a 16-year-old girl named Niketa was found dead by suicide in the Talgram Kotwali area of Kannauj district. According to SP Amit Kumar Anand, police arrived promptly after receiving the report and sent the body for post-mortem, which confirmed death by hanging.
A suicide note found on the deceased’s person alleged that Niketa had been beaten by her parents for talking to a young man on the phone. In the note, she expressed regret for her actions but cited the severe physical punishment as unbearable.
The note also revealed that Niketa had been tortured by her stepmother and father following her mother’s death and her father’s subsequent remarriage.The police are investigating the case based on the suicide note, which implicates Niketa's parents in her distress. The note indicated that the young girl was deeply troubled by her family situation and the harsh treatment she received.
A case has been registered following a complaint by Niketa's maternal uncle, Girijesh Kumar, who reported ongoing abuse by the girl's stepmother and father. SP Amit Kumar Anand emphasized the seriousness of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
